David Douglas Society becomes a fiscal sponsor of the Finding David Douglas Project

DDS, in collaboration with the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission and Lois Leonard, producer of the Finding David Douglas documentary, have forged a new partnership to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the Finding David Douglas Project.

In January 2016, the David Douglas Society will assume the administrative and programmatic responsibilities for the FDD Project while leveraging the extensive expertise of Lois to benefit both Finding David Douglas and the Society.

"This partnership represents a natural fit for the David Douglas Society," say Catherine Alexander, DDS President. "We're excited to work closely with Lois to develop K-12 curricula based upon her research on David Douglas and the geo-historical context in which he lived and worked."

Individuals and institutions wishing to purchase single copies of the Finding David Douglas DVD are encouraged to visit http://findingdaviddouglas.org/buy-film.php. For wholesale orders, email DavidDouglasSociety@gmail.com.

On February 20, 2015, several members of the David Douglas Society drove and hiked through the back country around Mauna Kea to the site of Douglas's death to pay tribute to this historic figure while learning about the species and ecosystems that captivated him. The group also toured the Lyman Mission House and Museum, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens and Kiluaea's crater during our stay on the island.

On October 20, 2014 representatives from the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission traveled to Hawaii to commemorate the life of David Douglas, the first trained scientist to visit the Oregon territory in the early 19th century.
